Ok it started lastnight I was chillin in my lounge like normal and a guy came in a SL’er from China. We got chatting and he was a reporter for a publication in China and was exploring if a little bewildered. Something he said struck me in that he said he had just come from the realworld office of a Chinese comapny building something similar to Secondlife. Wow I thought thats kinda predictable what with SL getting all the press and hype the last few months. Then I logged back into SL few hours later and upon reading the updated T’s & C’s noticed that the Lindens seemed to be lining up for 3rd party clients.
Now I could be totally wrong but one thing did come out of this following my post on the SL forums G Greenstein aka Anshe Chung’s RL husband chatted to me and invited me over to the Asia/China Sim development.
Aside from my begging for a job we discussed the Asian linked sims which are aimed at Chinese Clients.
英国小伙Christensen记载了部分我跟他的对话。其中我提到了国内公司hipihi，一个相当有前途的公司。他们会是中国的SL。另外，Chiristensen提到的第三方服务器问题，中国市场的开拓问题，都是蛮重要的。Anshe Chung的中国城计划颇为宏大，sim里面的指示牌都是中文字体的，完全中国式样的建筑和风景。
另外，今天LL的老总承认最近SL服务器不堪重负。在经过了早期的用户自我选择和淘汰之后，生态圈的良性发展加上媒体的轰炸，现在SL的用户数目增长速度是爆 炸式的。我记得我在10月中写《线上乌托邦》一文的时候，注册用户数目是历史性的100万，之后不到一个月，已经膨胀到130万。现在，同时登陆用户的增多导致sims崩溃，building过程中的bugs频现。我在中国时区，登陆时间上一般是北美的晚上和凌晨，加上我的macbook pro功能强大，玩sl的时候还算流畅，但最近也觉得问题多多。LL必须不断增加服务器，确保带宽，同时还得维护一个越来越庞大的线上世界。LL的任务，重得很。
